Privacy Policy

Photonica (“Photonica”, “we”, “us”) is a free reference resource for photonics engineering. This policy explains what we collect when you visit photonica.io and what we do with it. The short version: we collect almost nothing, we don’t use cookies, and we never sell your data.

Information we collect

Anonymous analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to see which pages are visited and how the site performs. It is privacy-first and cookieless: visitors are counted using a temporary hash derived from the incoming request, no cookies are set, no IP address is stored, and the data is aggregated so it cannot identify any individual. The hash is discarded automatically after 24 hours. We see counts and trends, never people.

Messages you send us. If you email us at hello@photonica.io, we receive the email address and message you choose to send, solely to read and respond.

We do not have user accounts, logins, comments, advertising, or tracking pixels. We do not collect payment information, and we do not build profiles of visitors.

Calculators and search

Calculators. Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser as JavaScript. Values you type or paste in, including LIV sweeps, threshold currents, and any other device data, are never transmitted to this site or to anyone else. They are not logged, not stored, and not retained after you close the tab. There is no server-side computation to send them to.

Search. Site search uses Pagefind, a static index your browser downloads and queries locally. Search terms are never sent to a server, so no record of what you looked for exists anywhere.

Cookies

Photonica sets no cookies. Because our analytics are cookieless, there is no cookie banner to click. There is nothing to consent to.

Third-party services

The site relies on one provider: Vercel, for hosting and the anonymous analytics described above. See Vercel’s Privacy Notice and Web Analytics privacy documentation for their practices. Vercel processes data on our behalf to operate the site. We don’t share your information for marketing, and we never sell it.

Data retention

Anonymous analytics data is short-lived by design (the visitor hash is discarded within 24 hours). Emails you send are kept only as long as needed to respond and to maintain a reasonable record of correspondence.

Your choices and rights

Since we don’t collect personal data beyond what you voluntarily send, there is little to manage. If you’ve emailed us and would like your message and address deleted from our records, or you have any question about your data, write to hello@photonica.io and we’ll take care of it.

Children

Photonica is a technical reference for a general and professional audience. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site handles data (for example, by adding a new analytics or comment system), we’ll update this page and revise the date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
